Homeless Children.

I was talking to Dr. McKinney during class and she mentioned that here in the US is where there are more homeless children than anywhere else. I found this article that talks about how 1 in every 50 children are homeless in the United States.

  1. Wow...who knew? this is proof that we need to worry about helping families here in America and getting back on our feet instead of spending tons of money (we dont have) on all these entitlement programs and foreign aid....i feel like there is a notion here in our country that everyone in America is rich and happy and can afford to give away money to help other countries and other people in need..this is not the case...we need to take care of ourselves first...then, after that...we can help the rest of the globe recover....a strong American economy and political scene is the most important thing for the world right now..everything else will fall into place once that happens

  3. This striking number of homeless children in the US surprises me. But I don't agree with saying Americans should be helped before everybody else. I believe that in this global 21st century, more countries should actually care about each other to extend hands when needed. Many homeless in US have places to stay, but that's not the case in other countries. There are severe problems that each country faces, and totally disengaging from them while focusing exclusively on the US would be unethical... Besides, I can not see governments solely focusing on the heaviest issues in the country even if they decided to fix wholly fix the US because it takes tons of money and time where the returning benefits are not assured. As Don from HFH said, only a few people are actually willing to take action.

  4. Nice article, Paula. I wonder how many of these children's families have been affected by foreclosure and/or debt. It would be interesting to find out some of the more indirect effects of these issues. Are things like homelessness part of the vicious circle of debt/foreclosure? If so, how can we at least protect people against these after effects?

  5. This is article is really hard for me to grasp. With so many problems going on within countries, in what ways should governmental funding be dispersed and who decides which issues are more important to focus on?
