Ancient Rome

Just as a follow up on a tweet from earlier this week I thought I would share an article that discussed the treatment of bankruptcy and debt in ancient Rome.

  1. From the way the article was written, I guess the publisher is pro-banks? I believe that the difference between the current debtors from the past is that they were in a business where it was systematized to fail the debtors. Although helping out the person who failed to pay the creditor might sound odd, it's completely understandable in this country where people realized the existence of cooperative fraud embedded in the housing market. The scale of bankruptcy in this country proves itself.

  2. This is really interesting, I learned about stuff similar to this in my Roman Army class. Some of the similarities and differences between then and now amaze me. The fact that over 2,000 years again people were suffering from debt just like now is astounding.
