"The Giant Pool of Money"

Here's an episode from NPR's "This American Life" hosted by Ira Glass on the mortgage crisis. The program provides an intimate, personal look some of the people who initiated the financial programs that caused the mortgage crisis and a portrait of those whose lives were changed forever by the collapse of the housing market. With all the CDOs, MBSs, and ARMs, the human element of this crisis can be lost. Glass's reporting makes this moment in history personal and helps you understand it through individuals, not acronyms.

  1. One of the most interesting aspects of this article happens in the first couple of minutes. When they mention that they almost canceled the award ceremony but didnt because of how hard the times had been on people is unbelievable. By making light of what happened we take away some of the motivation to do better. It is not to say that people dont need help handling what has happened, but we have to take the problem head on at all levels. It shouldnt just be the people that are losing their homes that face the music.
