Land bank fights blight: $15 million program to return property to tax rolls

This article includes what Kalamazoo has been doing to deal with foreclosure and abandonment. Some of the things were mentioned during the presentation in the class on Thursday.

  1. I think what the land bank is doing is good for the city of Kalamazoo. I think it is important to improve the neighborhoods and get rid of the properties that are beyond repair.

  2. I think the land bank and other resources similar to it are vital in the slow recovery of the real estate market in the Unites States

  3. According to the 2010 census, the growth that Kalamazoo County experienced (5%) has occurred largely within its townships and suburbs. Hopefully, with programs like these, more growth can be attracted to the cities themselves.

  4. I think this is great, but who is going to do the actual dirty work? The people within the community? Are they willing to clean up their own community? Or will people outside of the community, for example our class, volunteer to help the community's appearance.
