Creating a community garden

"Over the last few years, urban gardening has grown increasingly more prominent-as an emblem of demand for healthier, more natural food; as a centerpiece of community-minded interaction; and as a means of cultivating beautifully functional public spaces."

  1. Grow your own food it tastes better and is more satisfying at the same time. Organic locally grown foods is an increasing market as well. People are beginning to want to know where their food is coming from. If a community establishes a large enough garden then they can get a good percentage of their food intake from, that sustainable source.

  3. I worked at a Fruit Market in highschool, and I never understood why people spent so much money on this food, it was so overpriced compared to Meijer or Kroger, but now I realize it was because of the quality. THis shows how willing people are to pay for good food, its so important.

  4. More than being of higher quality, this food represents, and is part of a growing movement to enhance local sustainability by strengthening the local economy and community, and providing greater accountability in the consumption of food. Kalamazoo has a remarkably vast movement, as you will find that many major restaurants in the area (Food Dance, Water Street, Just Good Foods) are committed to utilizing fresh, local ingredients. This is a movement and a market worth investing in and supporting.
