Many homeowners are having a difficult time with home values falling. They are unable to sell; therefore, many decide to remodel.   1. That's an interesting point. I think that the idea of not spending money in hopes of making up for losses is no different than using multiple credit cards- another cause of America's debt. Too many people think that they will be able to find the money in the future or prices/income will go back up, thus allowing them to pay back their debt or, like you said, make up for decreasing housing prices. Overall, it's a pretty simple ideology, but one that many people don't follow- don't spend money you don't have.
